Maybe the title should be, “She is an athlete”. Please meet Andrea Jacks. Andrea hired me in August of 2009 for a year to help her do two things: lose weight and get strong! Let’s talk about weight – she has lost 30 pounds and dropped 9% body fat. In terms of strength, how about 120 pound squats for 8 sets of 8 reps with 45 seconds rest between sets, or 240 pound sled drags for 8 sets with 30 second rest periods. Last but not least, Andrea recently performed 200 snatches with a 12 kg kettlebell in 9:31 seconds. That is an extremely impressive accomplishment for any woman, but here is the kicker – Andrea achieved this result after just six weeks of training with kettlebells! Yesterday she just knocked off 5 sets of 4 ladders on the Clean & Press with a 16 kg kettebell. At this pace she will be rocking 20 kg in no time!
Hey, NO EXCUSES! She is the General Manager of one of the biggest food chains in North America, works 12 – 15 hour days and trains 3 – 4 times per week with me, in addition to performing energy systems workouts on her own that I prescribe for her. Can you imagine what she would accomplish as a full time athlete?
Her focus is incredible! When her mind is set on a goal there is no stopping her. Her concentration and mental strength is 90% of the equation. The other 10% is giving her the right strength training methods for her to express her true potential.
In terms of nutrition and supplementation, we indentified that carbs are not her friend so I put her on a low carb-high protein lifestyle plan that only allows her to eat carbs at certain times. As for supplementation – following a BioSignature assessment, she is on a specific supplementation and post-training protocol designed for her personal requirements. So far the results have been fantastic. We still have eight months to go, so stay tuned as she smashes her PB’s and reaches higher benchmarks.
